Shelter Admission Processes

What to Expect

Our Emergency Overnight Shelter check-in is at 7 p.m. daily.
Our Day Room is open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.

Clients are encouraged to show up at the Faith Mission on Mondays through Fridays for entry screening. If you have any questions about residency issues, please feel free to contact the Mission directly at (574) 293-3406, ext. 101.

*Note: The number of clients admitted at intake is based on pre-screen eligibility and bed availability. If you have been convicted of a sex crime or arson, then you are not eligible to reside at Faith Mission of Michiana.

Background Check

All residents are required to get a Wants & Warrants check with the Elkhart City Police Department. This is a free service.

Personal Care

All residents must be physically and mentally able to care for themselves, and in good standing with Faith Mission of Michiana.

Our Support Process

We’re here to help give you hope and a future.

Faith Mission of Michiana provides short-term and long-term lodging options to qualified residents. A resident’s stay may be short term (as little as one night) or long term (up to two years). To qualify for a longer term stay, individuals must be enrolled in the Resident Program which provides the opportunity for positive life-changing experiences during their stay. As part of their lodging, residents are provided hygienic supplies and laundry facilities.

Emergency Overnight Services

We provide beds and a secure sleeping environment for as many individuals as our capacity permits. Our guests are served breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A dedicated 24-hour team assists individuals in settling in, ensuring their comfort, and informing them about the services available.

Short-Term Tiny Shelters

Faith Mission’s unique Tiny Shelters program provides secure living conditions in a one-room tiny home on our shelter campus. These individual shelters are for short-term use (up to 90 days), designed to meet clients “where they are” and help them move toward a new beginning. Tiny shelters offer individuals a short-term respite from homelessness and an entry to Faith Mission of Michiana’s support programs.

Residential Life Skills Programs

A 90-day to 6-month residential program providing individuals the opportunity to stabilize from street life, form supportive relationships, receive job training, and assistance in obtaining housing and employment.

Long-Term Tiny Homes & Stable Housing

Located adjacent to our Tiny Shelters village, the new Tiny Homes on Faith Mission’s campus are slightly larger, include additional amenities, and are being built to provide transitional housing for the men and women who have graduated from our programs. This provides a low-cost housing option while clients work toward financial independence and long-term stable housing.

Faces of Faith

Vonzette’s Story

Vonzette grew up in Texas and was in a 15-year abusive relationship with a man who had introduced her to drugs. She knew she was going downhill fast. Then one day, she finally gathered up her courage and left town on the next available bus.

“I just had to get out. I knew a better life once upon a time, and I wanted it back. So the best way I knew, I took my purse and what money I had, and it brought me here.”
