“I came here to better myself.”

Kyle grew up in Warsaw in an abusive home – a terrible situation his stepmother wanted to get him out of. Even after she and Kyle’s father divorced, Kyle’s stepmom continued caring for him.

One way she cared for Kyle was by involving him in the church she attended. “It was a really good church,” Kyle remembers. “But once I left, I departed from that.”

When Kyle walked into our Emergency Overnight Shelter, he had no job, no ID, not even his Social Security card or a birth certificate.

“When I first came here, it was cold,” he remembers. “It was calming knowing I had somewhere I could stay instead of being out in the cold. They serve three meals a day, and they’re nice. The people here actually talk to you.”

Once Kyle became a resident, the dominoes started to fall. He got help with anger management and substance abuse. He also started growing in the Lord.

“I started going to church on Sundays, and the Bible studies here helped me connect with God, too,” he says. “Since coming here, I couldn’t get any closer to God than I am right now. I’m loving it.”

Today, Kyle is a changed man who is helping others. He works security at the front desk and serves in our Emergency Overnight Shelter.

“God is gracious,” he says. “He wakes me up every day to talk to people and help them get where they need to go.”

His next step is to get his own place to live and be closer to his family, including his sister and a son who is now in school.

Kyle came to the Mission to better himself. With your blessing and support, that is exactly what is happening. Thank you for making a difference!
